Description
The Jolson Story (Columbia, 1950). Fine+ on Linen. Italian 2 - Fogli (39.25" X 55") Anselmo Ballester Artwork.A vibrant musical biopic directed by Alfred E. Green, The Jolson Story depicts the life and career of legendary entertainer Al Jolson, best known for The Jazz Singer. The story begins in early 20th-century Washington, D.C., where young Asa Yoelson (Scotty Beckett), the son of a Jewish immigrant, abandons his religious studies to join a vaudeville act. Captivated by African-American jazz music, he adopts the stage name "Al Jolson" and rises to fame as a minstrel performer, eventually becoming a Broadway sensation and nightclub star. Although Jolson wanted to star as himself, Larry Parks was cast after Jolson's unsuccessful screen test, with Jolson coaching Parks in the role that earned him an Oscar nomination. The film features dazzling musical performances and iconic songs with Jolson's real voice adding authenticity. Winning Oscars for Best Sound and Score, it became a box-office hit. This Italian poster by Anselmo Ballester beautifully captures the film's essence, featuring Parks and Keyes alongside glowing marquees bearing Jolson's name, symbolizing his lasting legacy. Slightly noticeable touchup has been applied throughout to address edge and fold wear, creases, some fold/crossfold separation, slight tears, and moderate chips/chipping. Some flaws, including toning, remain visible. From the Soccio Matteo Collection.
