Description

A Dog's Life (First National, 1918). Fine+. Photo Lobby Card Set of 8 (8" X 10").
Just after he departed from Mutual in 1917, Charlie Chaplin joined First National for a brief period under a contract that gave him complete creative control over his films. It was during this time that Chaplin produced some of his best works, including Shoulder Arms (1918), The Kid (1921), The Pilgrim (1923), and this unforgettable classic, in which he wrote, produced, directed, and starred. Billed throughout the campaign as "The one and only Charles Chaplin" and "In his first million dollar comedy," this would be the comedian's first picture released with the studio. Co-starring Edna Purviance and a dog named Scraps, the picture also stars Chaplin's brother Sydney, marking the first time the two brothers were featured on the screen together. An impactful icon in cinema history, Chaplin is featured within each of the lobby photos in this extremely scarce set from A Dog's Life. In remarkable condition after over a century since its release, the cards have only slight edge wear, corner bumps or bends, soft creases, micro-tears, and visible toning.
