Description
Strike Me Lucky (Z Films, 1934). Australian Six Sheet (78.5" X 81.75").Australia's most renown stage comic of the era, Roy Rene, stars in this lost film, his first and only motion picture. It's a musical comedy that revolves around the kidnap of the young daughter of a rich aristocrat. She's played by "Baby" Pamela Bevan, who was billed as "Australia's Shirley Temple." Rene disliked the film, as he preferred live performance. He created the "Stiffy and Mo" comedy routine with Nat Phillips in 1914, which became a popular stage production. In the 1920s and 1930s Rene and his wife, Sadie Gale, enjoyed success on both the stage and radio. Artist J. Rose is credited with this large stone litho, country-of-origin six sheet that has been mounted on linen and professionally restored. Touchup was applied to tears and creasing in the background, tears in the left and right border, a tear in the top and bottom border that extends into the art, small surface paper loss in one woman's leg, chips and tears in Rene's nose and forehead, the red lettering, at the top left, and at the top right extending into the yellow background. The restoration looks terrific, and the colors are impressively bright and well saturated. Fine on Linen.
