Description

The Dictator (Paramount, 1915). Very Good/Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28.25" X 41").
The Dictator is a 1915 American silent romantic adventure comedy starring John Barrymore (in his third feature film) and was directed by Oscar Eagle. Barrymore appeared in a number of classic movies, including the 1919 version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the 1920 version of Sherlock Holmes, Twentieth Century, Counselor at Law, Dinner at Eight, and Grand Hotel. He was nicknamed "The Great Profile," and he was widely considered to be the finest stage actor of his time. Based on a play by Richard Harding Davis, the film was produced by Adolph Zukor's Famous Players Film Company and released through the "Paramount Program," an arrangement predating Paramount Pictures, which would be founded later that same year by Zukor and others. The story was remade in 1922 starring Wallace Reid and both films are presumed lost. Original 1915 movie memorabilia of any kind from this title is incredibly rare. Poster had touchup to fold wear, fold separation, tears, chips to borders and missfolds. There were tape strips to verso with visible retouch and very faint ink bleed through in title lettering.
