Description
The Third Man (Selznick, 1949). Fine on Paper. Half Sheets (2) (22" X 28") Style A & B.Offered here are both the A and B style half sheets for director Carol Reed's film noir masterpiece, The Third Man. Based on a story by novelist Graham Greene and starring Mercury theater mainstays Orson Welles and Joseph Cotten, the film is notable for its bleak portrayal of Post-War Vienna, adventurous cinematography, and celebrated zither score. Both half sheets have been paperbacked. The style B had an inch of blank border added on all sides. Both received airbrushing to the borders and backgrounds, as well as touchup to creases and tears. The A had correction to corner and edge chips, and a .5" hole in the upper image. Thanks to these efforts, both posters are admirably presentable. Given the markedly different key art, both styles are essential for any Reed, Welles, or noir collector.
