The Pirates of Blood River by Luigi Martinati (Columbia, 1962). Very Fine-. Signed Original Gouache Artwork on Paper (20" X 28") used for Italian Locandina.
Now famous for his poster art found on the likes of The Big Sleep, Captain Blood, and Casablanca, Luigi Martinati started as a commercial poster designer after attending a school of Fine Arts. Renowned for his portraits of Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, as well as Errol Flynn, Martinati's technical artistic talent is just as apparent in this depiction of Christopher Lee and Kerwin Mathews in The Pirates of Blood River, featured on the Italian locandina. This unique Heritage first shows signs of handling like edge wear, corner bumps, small tears, and pinholes. There are unobtrusive stains and smudges, light creases, as well as a tear with a surface lift in the right border that extends into the background. The verso has a few strips of paper remnants and some notations that indicate this artwork may have also been used for the 4 - fogli. The artwork has a few unevenly cut edges, which, along with some of the wear, may be due to the production process. Very Fine-.
