Description

Little Annie Rooney (United Artists, 1925). Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (28.25" X 41.25"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Heritage is pleased to present this gorgeous stone litho poster for the first time, which is the only copy known to exist and was displayed in the Gallery of Film Poster Art at California State Northridge. Mary Pickford, the silent film sweetheart, made her triumphant return to her role as a teenage ragamuffin, the character genre that propelled her to success in the 1910s. At 32, Pickford easily slips into the role of twelve-year-old Annabelle 'Little Annie' Rooney in this surprisingly heartfelt film, showcasing not only her prowess in acting, but in the realm of writing as well (though she credited herself under her grandmother's name, Catherine Hennessey). Pickford enlisted the help of one of Hollywood's most prolific directors, William Beaudine, who was used to working with and had found great success with children in his films Boy of Mine as well as Penrod and Sam. Little Annie Rooney became a box office hit as one of the highest grossing films of 1925, and remains a top contender in the long history of Mary Pickford's screen art portfolio. Restoration has been applied to correct fold wear and separations, creases, small chips at the folds, and some surface wear. Also addressed were tears in the interior, a few of which are in Mary Pickford's image. Still apparent is some foxing, including in the title and Pickford's credit. The borders have touchup applied and have a few post-restoration cracks.
