Description
The Hurricane Express (Mascot, 1932). Lobby Card (11" X 14") Chapter 1 -- "The Wrecker."John Wayne started in Hollywood as Marion Michael Morrison, playing bit parts and working as a crew member. With his starring role in The Big Trail (1930), he changed his name to John Wayne and began to work his way to the top. In this serial, one of Wayne's earliest starring roles, he plays pilot Larry Baker who is investigating a train wreck that killed his father. An unknown saboteur, nicknamed "The Wrecker" has made a practice of wrecking trains to steal important shipments throughout the twelve episodes. Shirley Grey stars as Wayne's love interest. This outstanding lobby card for episode 1 -- traditionally the only lobby card set rendered in full color -- has a fantastic action scene of the Duke taking his licks. In very fine condition with only pinholes in the corners, a few staple holes in the background, a very small tear in the center, and a bottom right corner that has been reattached with archival tape. An added bonus is that this is only one of three cards featuring Wayne from the highly desirable first chapter lobby set. Fine/Very Fine.
