Description
The Lost Squadron (Cinelux, 1932). French Grande (47" X 63.25").Based on the real-life experiences of such famed stunt fliers as Ormer Locklear and Dick Grace (who scripted this picture and also appears in the film), this is the story of a trio of former flying aces (Richard Dix, Robert Armstrong, and Joel McCrea) who return from World War I looking for work. Unable to find anything else, they become stunt fliers employed by megalomaniacal director Von Furst (Erich von Stroheim) who has no qualms about sending men to their deaths in pursuit of cinematic "realism." Filled with striking portraits of the cast, the stone litho French grande offered in this lot is a Heritage first. It's in impressive condition, as restoration has addressed a chip in the top left and fold wear. Very Fine on Linen.
Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
