Secret Agent (Gaumont, 1936). Half Sheet (22" X 28").
Alfred Hitchcock followed the success of The 39 Steps (1935) with this adaptation of a Somerset Maugham story, Ashenden, screenplay credited to Charles Bennett. Starring John Gielgud, and retaining Madeleine Carroll from the previous film, Secret Agent, charts an intriguing course from a light tale of wartime derring-do to something more morally complex. Restoration has this rare half sheet displaying quite well, with touchup applied to a slight fade of colors in the image area, tears and pinholes in the borders, and light folds. There is a post-restoration vertical crease. Very Good- on Paper.
