Chikamatsu Monogatari (Daiei Studios, 1954). Japanese B1 (29" X 42"). In the mid-1950s, Daiei Studios had become masters of releasing Japanese films in the U.S. market. Following the end of the Allied occupation of Japan in 1952, the studio committed itself to winning over Western audiences and critics. They were successful thanks in no small part to the efforts of director Kenji Mizoguchi. Like his other post-WWII efforts, "Chikamatsu Monogatari" was a smash with English speaking audiences. Japanese produced posters for English speaking audiences are incredibly rare. This one has a bit of staining in the borders and top right corner. The corners have minor bumps and creases and there is light edge wear. The image area, featuring a great shot of Kyôko Kagawa and Kazuo Hasegawa, is very clean with only a pinpoint stain to the left of Hasegawa's head. Rolled, Very Fine-.
