Cimarron (RKO, 1931). Fine+. Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14"). Fredric C. Madan Title Lobby Card Artwork. This tale of the Oklahoma land rush starring Richard Dix and Irene Dunne holds the distinction of being the first Western to win the Best Picture Oscar, a feat not repeated until Dances with Wolves in 1990. The film's budget was massive for the day ($1.5 million), and employed over 5,000 extras, 28 cameramen, and hundreds of technicians. RKO also went all out in promoting the film, including paper with art by the acclaimed illustrator Frederic C. Madan, as is featured on the title lobby card. The cards generally show slight edge wear, light creases, pinholes, as well as small chips and tears. The title card has received touchup to these issues, and has also been partially airbrushed on the verso. Other wear found among the cards includes unobtrusive stains and smudges, minute paper lifts, in addition to some mild toning. Two of the cards have tears into the image braced with paper tape on the verso. A few of the cards appear to have some color fading, including the title card.
