Directed by Cecil B. DeMille, this lavish Paramount epic stars Claudette Colbert as the seductive and ambitious Queen of Egypt. The film traces Cleopatra's dramatic rise to power, her affairs with Julius Caesar (Warren William) and Mark Antony (Henry Wilcoxon), ending with her tragic downfall as Rome's destiny collides with her own. A showcase of DeMille's legendary flair for spectacle, it was both a critical and commercial success, netting five Academy Award nominations and winning for Best Cinematography. Backed to linen, restoration has addressed wear, splits and chips to the folds as well as the fold junctions and the borders. The borders and the light blue area at right have been airbrushed.
