The Deadly Mantis (Universal International, 1957). Folded, Very Fine+. Three Sheet (41" X 78.5") Ken Sawyer Artwork.
In one of the most entertaining monster films of the 1950s, producer William Alland brought audiences The Deadly Mantis, in which a prehistoric praying mantis thawed from Arctic ice wreaks havoc on its way to Washington, opposed by Craig Stevens, William Hopper, and Alix Talton. Reflecting Cold War anxieties over radiation and nuclear science, the film makes memorable use of stock military footage, while Ken Sawyer's dynamic poster art captures the era's fascination with giant insect terrors that became iconic on large-format posters of the genre, such as this one. Coming in two panels as originally printed, this example displays light edge and fold wear, slight creases, a couple of border tears, and subtle image ghosting.
