This lot contains two country-of-origin photo lobby cards for Fritz Lang's sci-fi epic. One depicts an underground machine in ruins and the other, Gustav Fröhlich and Margarete Lanner in the Eternal Gardens. Metropolis depicts a futuristic city sharply divided between wealthy elites living in luxury above ground and oppressed workers toiling below. When the ruler's son falls in love with a worker's daughter preaching unity, rebellion erupts as a mad scientist creates a robotic double to sow chaos. Fritz Lang's visionary silent epic blends expressionist design with social allegory, warning of the dehumanizing effects of industrialization and class division. The machine card borders have been trimmed and the cards exhibit some staple holes and corner creasing. The Gardens card retains UFA, film, archive and talent ink stamps on the verso.
