Psycho (Paramount, 1960). Very Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41"). Arguably the most influential of Alfred Hitchcock's late-career masterpieces, Psycho was loosely based on the crimes of serial killer Ed Gein. Screenwriters Joseph Stefano and Robert Bloch (with Hitchcock) turned the lurid news reports into one of the screen's greatest villains, Norman Bates. The film's initial twist, killing off the purported protagonist in the first act, remains jarring to viewers even 60-years on. Much of the promotion of the film revolved around protecting the plot, with patrons being denied late entry to the theater and urged to keep the proceedings to themselves. The poster, itself edgy for the time, remains a sought-after artifact from this provocative film. Backed to linen, there has been light touch-up to the fold lines; there were pinholes in the corners and the borders have been airbrushed. Note that the linen at top and bottom has been trimmed close to the poster edges.
