The Batman (Columbia, 1943). Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 40.75") Chapter 6 -- "Poison Peril."
This vibrant one sheet for Columbia's 1943 serial The Batman (Chapter 6 -- Poison Peril) marks the Caped Crusader's first motion picture appearance, pitting him against spies led by the sinister agent Dr. Daka during the height of World War II. Produced as a chapter play to keep audiences returning to theaters, the serial format soon faded with the rise of television - though Batman himself soared to new heights with the campy TV series of 1966 and blockbuster films of the 1980s, 1990s, and beyond. Rarely offered, posters from this early serial are highly coveted, especially examples like this one featuring both Batman and Robin in the inset photo. Slightly heavy restoration to the borders and folds has addressed edge and fold wear, creases, fold/crossfold separation, mostly minor tears/splits, a few stains, and some chips, including a missing bottom left corner, further corrected by replacement.
