Ray Milland won an Academy Award for his searing portrayal of a writer who lets booze ruin every aspect of his life. Based on the novel by Charles Jackson and directed by Billy Wilder, this harrowing film also won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay (Wilder, Charles Brackett). This wonderful French Grande, featuring artwork by Boris Grinsson of the troubled alcoholic and Jane Wyman as his hopeful girlfriend, is glorious in its brown and umber tones lending to the iconic film noir look. Professional restoration has corrected a large chip in the top right corner, and small tears in the word "Film" and in the vertical folds. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
