Description

The Bride of Frankenstein (Universal, 1935). Pre-War Belgian (24.5" X 33.5").
James Whale's sequel to his 1931 masterpiece Frankenstein quickly became a classic in its own right, surpassing the original in many ways. Boris Karloff and Colin Clive return as the monster and his maker, and Ernest Thesiger, seen below left, is pure genius as the mad Dr. Pretorius. Dr. Frankenstein is torn between his new bride Elizabeth (Valerie Hobson) and his desire to continue his gruesome experiments with Pretorius. When Frankenstein is blackmailed into creating another monster, The Bride is born, played beautifully by Elsa Lanchester who also stars in a dual role as the narrator Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. The superb makeup by Jack Pierce, gothic sets, and powerful performances by the stars, make this a flawless masterpiece. And evidenced by recent Heritage auctions, this is one of the top titles for movie poster connoisseurs. We have never offered another copy of this magnificent pre-war Belgian poster! Prior to professional restoration the poster had a chip off of the upper left corner within the imprint area next to the "S" in "Select." There was a clean tear from the bottom border into the word "Frankenstein" in the credit box. There was a small clean tear from the right border into Elsa Lancaster's gown, a tiny hole upper right of her head and a minuscule stain in Frankenstein's chin. There was a small "v" shaped tear in the yellow field above the monster's head, and minor clean border tears in the lower right border. The image was completely intact and the poster was in very nice condition prior to the work done. This is an absolutely beautiful image of the monster and his mate and not to be missed! Very Fine- on Linen.

Another major house refused the work stating it was too unique for the artist. Heritage saw that as an advantage!
