Description

The Straight Way (Fox, 1916). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Drama.
A quite rare piece of pre-1920's film memorabilia. Alas, not one film remains of the saucy Valeska Suratt, "The Vampire Woman", who had her play "The Girl With the Whooping Cough" closed on Broadway in 1910 due to "indecency" charges. This was a good 17 years before it happened to Mae West with "Sex" in 1927. Suratt had her scenario "borrowed" by DeMille for King of Kings. She sued, DeMille, who settled out of court, and Suratt was blacklisted in Hollywood as a result, ending her career. Starring Valeska Suratt , Herbert Heyes, Glen White, Claire Whitney. Directed by Will S. Davis. An unrestored lobby card with good color and an overall very presentable appearance. It may have edge wear with small tears, slight paper loss, minor stains, and/or some very light foxing throughout. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Fine.

Needless to say I was overwhelmed by the results of the auction and I truly believe it was Jill’s efforts in promoting and displaying the piece that brought in the extra value.
