Description

The New Magdalen (Imp, 1912). British One Sheet (30" X 40").
British novelist and friend of Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, penned this story about a female victim struggling against both unjust social exclusion and her own selfish instincts. It echoed elements of the ongoing debate of the day, the role of females in society after the turn of the century women's movement. No less than three short film adaptations were made of the novel between 1910 and 1914, including this one directed by Herbert Brenon, who would later helm Beau Geste (1926). This stone litho rarity was printed by Jordison and Co. Ltd London and Middlesbrough, and mounted to paper which has been trimmed to the edges of the piece. It has had minimal restoration to long vertical tears, edge wear with tears, and missing paper in the corners and near the folds. A poster of this scarceness and condition is an excellent choice for additional restoration to further enhance its overall pleasing appearance. Good on Paper.
