John Ford's superb filming of Nobel prize-winning author John Steinbeck's novel is one of the great achievements of cinema. The epic tale of the Joad family begins with Tom (Henry Fonda) returning to his home in Oklahoma after being released from prison. Along with his family members and friends, played by an exceptional cast including Jane Darwell, Charley Grapewin, and John Carradine, Tom and his family make the long trek to California to find work and a better life after being evicted from their farm. As we follow their struggles and setbacks, the audience becomes deeply entwined in their lives and we are given only small glimpses of hope. Darwell, as Ma Joad is particularly moving and inspirational, never giving in and never giving up--the role won her an Academy Award along with director Ford. Considered by all to be a triumph of filmmaking, paper from this classic is highly sought after by collectors and rarely found. Even more scarce is this gorgeous Style A one sheet which features the Joads set against artwork by Thomas Hart Benton, the iconic artist of American Regionalism. This poster is in incredible condition with only pinholes in the corners, smudges in one corner, two extra vertical creases, and small pieces of paper tape on the verso. This is truly an unforgettable poster for an unforgettable American classic. Very Fine.
