Description
Casablanca (Warner Brothers, 1942). Six Sheet (81" X 81").Seventy one years ago Warner Brothers Studios released a wartime programmer which they had high hopes would appeal to their audiences who were facing the hardships of war including rationing of food and gas and the loss of loved ones to foreign destinations. The studio's expectation was to bring a modest profit similar to hundreds of films turned out year after year. A script had been cobbled together by several writers but was incomplete when production began. The star was one of the studio's secondary actors who had made a climb in billing only recently with the release of a new film called The Maltese Falcon. His name was Humphrey Bogart and his new film would go on to become one of the most beloved in cinema history. Casablanca is a love story between two people who had known each other in a previous place and time and who were now destined to take separate roads in their effort to win a war and save civilization from ruin. The film would win the Best Picture prize from the Academy and would win the hearts of audiences then and for generations to come. This is one of two known copies of the gorgeous large format six sheet the studio produced for this film. The poster has minimal touchup to foldlines, centerpoints, and outer edges, to the areas where only minor wrinkling, chipping and tears had been. There has been some touchup to the cast names in the upper part of the poster to even out colors where scuffing and wear had occurred and there is work around and within the word "Casablanca." The poster was not missing any paper other than minor chips at crossfolds. The quotation marks on the right side of the title were not left off of the poster in restoration but were never printed in red when the poster was produced. We have left it in its original state. Very Fine- on Linen.
